Sweco is a leader in architecture and engineering, operating across 70 countries. In the Netherlands, they also offer specialized software solutions – among them is Obsurv, the application for managing urban infrastructure and buildings. It has been used by dozens of cities in the last few years, however, each time the implementation required a lot of work – due to the need to create custom modules tailored to the specific requirements of each municipality. The maintenance and further development of so many diverse versions of the same app – sometimes requiring a trip of a tech-savvy specialist in a particular city – started getting more time-consuming and more expensive. It became visible that this technological debt needed to be taken care of.
