Executive summary: A tablet app that lets sales reps build offers live, in front of the customer

01

Client

A large international cash-and-carry wholesaler operating in Central Europe, serving professional B2B customers — hotels, restaurants, catering businesses, event venues, and independent traders — through a membership model. With a broad food and non-food assortment and a dynamically changing price list, the company's field sales representatives are central to winning and retaining HoReCa clients, often preparing tailored offers directly during on-site meetings.

02

The core challenge

The wholesaler's sales representatives needed to prepare dedicated, customer-specific offers — for example for a hotel, a wedding venue, or a restaurant — and to do so dynamically during meetings with the client. The existing tools didn't support that kind of live, on-the-spot work. Reps needed a mobile solution they could use on a tablet, one that stayed accurate against a constantly changing price list and connected to the company's real product catalog rather than a static export.

03

Solution delivered

Pretius delivered a mobile-first application, optimized for both tablet and desktop, that lets sales representatives build offers and orders for their customers in real time. The app integrates with the company's data warehouse and existing product catalog, and synchronizes with a dynamically changing price list — including honoring the validity period of the offered prices. A strong emphasis on UI/UX made it comfortable to use in the middle of a client meeting, not just at a desk.
Key outcomes:
  • Offers built live, on a tablet:
Sales reps can prepare dedicated, customer-specific offers dynamically during on-site meetings rather than back at the office.
  • Always-accurate pricing:
Synchronization with the dynamically changing price list – respecting each price's validity period – keeps quoted prices correct.
  • Connected to real data:
Integration with the company's data warehouse and product catalog means reps work from the live assortment, not a stale copy.
  • Delivered in six weeks:
A small, focused team shipped the working application in about a month and a half.

Client background

The client is a major international wholesaler operating on a cash-and-carry model, with a strong presence in Central Europe. Its customers are professional buyers – hotels, restaurants, caterers (the HoReCa segment), event venues, and independent merchants – who rely on the wholesaler for a broad range of food and non-food products at competitive, volume-based prices.

In this kind of business, the field sales representative is a key channel. Winning a hotel or a restaurant chain as a customer often depends on presenting a compelling, tailored offer during a face-to-face meeting. That, in turn, depends on the rep being able to assemble an accurate offer on the spot – pulling from the current assortment and, critically, the current prices, which change frequently and carry defined validity windows.

The business challenge: Turning a face-to-face meeting into an accurate, on-the-spot offer

Before the project, sales reps lacked a tool that let them configure tailored offers dynamically, in front of the customer, against live pricing.

That situation created several concrete needs:

  • Live work during client meetings:
Reps needed to prepare dedicated offers for specific customers – a hotel, a wedding venue, a restaurant – dynamically, while sitting with the client, not afterwards.
  • Mobility on a tablet:
The tool had to run comfortably on a mobile device so it could travel to the customer, while still working well on a desktop back at the office.
  • Accuracy against a moving price list:
Prices changed dynamically and had defined validity periods, so any offer tool had to stay synchronized to avoid quoting stale or expired prices.
  • A connection to real product data:
The app needed to draw on the company's actual data warehouse and product catalog rather than a static, quickly outdated export.

The solution: A mobile-first offer and order configurator

Pretius delivered an application built specifically around how the wholesaler's sales representatives work. The app lets a rep assemble customer-specific offers and orders, integrates with the company's data warehouse and existing product catalog, and synchronizes with the dynamically changing price list – taking each price's validity period into account so quotes stay accurate. Because the app had to perform in a live meeting as well as at a desk, a great deal of attention went into UI/UX and day-to-day usability on both tablet and desktop.

The project ran in an Agile (Scrum) methodology. A small, stable two-person Pretius team delivered the work over roughly a month and a half, with one developer from the client's side joining the team to collaborate directly.

The delivery was built around three connected pillars:

01

Live offer and order creation

The core of the app: sales reps can build dedicated offers and place orders for individual customers, tailored to each client's needs during the meeting itself.

02

Data warehouse and catalog integration

The app connects to the company's data warehouse and existing product catalog, so reps always work from the live assortment rather than a separate, static list.

03

Price synchronization with validity periods

The app stays in sync with a dynamically changing price list and honors the period during which each offered price is valid – keeping every quote accurate and current.

Technologies powering the app

Conclusion

This project shows how a small, focused team and the right low-code stack can turn a sales team's face-to-face meetings into accurate, on-the-spot offers – fast.

It allows for leveraging existing investments in PL/SQL logic while opening the system to the modern web and cloud world. The client's case is proof that even the most complicated legacy systems can be modernized without operataThe wholesaler didn't need a heavyweight, months-long platform. It needed to put an accurate, easy-to-use offer configurator into its sales representatives' hands, usable on a tablet in front of a customer and always in sync with a fast-moving price list. By working in a tight Agile loop with the client's own developer and building on an Oracle APEX foundation, Pretius delivered exactly that in about six weeks – a mobile-first app that connects to live product data, respects price validity periods, and makes it easy to turn a client meeting into a tailored offer.ional paralysis of the company, as long as you choose your migration partner correctly.
